New clients welcome (weekdays only available). Shelly earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Simon Fraser University in 2001. After starting her family, she went back to school to become a teacher. During her practicum she realized that she was most drawn to the social emotional learning. So, she quickly switched gears, and started volunteering at the Surrey crisis line and attended Alder University. Shelly graduated with her Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology in 2021. In the therapy room, Shelly uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help her clients create a different relationship to their experiences, Emotion Focused Family Therapy to help support parents, and Play Therapy with the younger clients. Shelly feels honoured and privileged to be invited into her clients lives. She is passionate about creating a safe, supportive space to allow for authentic sharing. During therapy her aim is to witness and validate client experiences, in order to help them explore on a deeper level. She will work relationally, somatically, emotionally and experientially with you. Her compassionate, and empathetic approach helps promote a comfort level, that allows for curiosity, self- discovery and wonder. Shelly is passionate about working with children/youth and their parents. More specifically, she has experience working with adults and children/youth with Autism and AD(H)D. Throughout our lifetime, moments, feelings, and changes weigh us down. It is hard to figure out how to free ourselves of this weight and how to move forward. I view counselling as a collaborative process that requires both an effort and a desire to work toward change. My therapeutic approach stems from a postmodern and social justice lens–although I view therapy as integrative. I carry a space of safety and curiosity, knowing that you are the only person who can voice your experience. I incorporate Person Centered Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy into my sessions. Some areas I have worked with include relationship and marriage distress, men’s mental health, anger, caregiver burnout, depression, anxiety, exploring beliefs and values, religious deconstruction, sexuality, sex and intimacy, and parental support. Some of my lived experiences include systemic racism, chronic pain, religious deconstruction, and marital transition. When I am not in the therapy room, you can find me at a local coffee shop or having a quiet night at home. I enjoy taking pictures with my film camera, painting, and spending time with those close to me. I work with individuals, couples, and families. My specialties include Couples Counselling and Men’s Emotional Health. I am a 2SLGBTQI+ affirming and sex-positive counsellor. I am honoured to be able to work alongside those processing what they are going through. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to schedule a consultation first.

I’m glad you are here. I’m Sharon, a compassionate counsellor dedicated to helping individuals like you overcome challenges and find greater clarity and peace. My approach is grounded in empathy and respect, creating a safe space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment. I am trained in supporting individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relational conflicts, generational trauma, school or work avoidance, and other challenges.

I specialize in helping clients manage family conflict and dysfunction while considering cultural values and generational expectations. In our sessions, we will work together to uncover the root causes of your challenges and develop a path forward for positive change. My approach is informed by CBT, family systems and attachment theory.

In addition to my foundational approaches, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This powerful therapeutic technique can be especially beneficial for those dealing with trauma and distressing memories. EMDR helps clients process and integrate these experiences, leading to reduced emotional pain and a greater sense of empowerment. By incorporating EMDR into our sessions, we can work together to facilitate deeper healing and faster progress on your journey.

I wholeheartedly trust that every individual has the innate ability to heal when met with genuine support in a safe, empathetic, and collaborative environment. Through a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approach, I hope to walk alongside you on your healing journey.

I aim to foster a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust and authenticity. My approach is holistic, person-centred, and strengths-based. I draw on evidence-based techniques from emotion-focused, mindfulness, and play therapies. I take great care to provide neurodivergent and gender-affirming therapy, and I believe individual differences are to be respected and celebrated.

I attained my graduate degree in Counselling Psychology from Adler University and an undergraduate degree at Simon Fraser University, with a major in Psychology and a minor in Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology. My formal education and personal life experiences have provided me with a unique perspective on the complex mind-body connection.

Over the past decade, I have worked in the community with children and adolescents, both neurodiverse and neurotypical. I am passionate about working with the next generation and am deeply honoured when I am given the opportunity to help a child or adolescent flourish.

At the start of your therapeutic journey, we will collaborate on individualized goals that align with your needs. While therapy is a temporary process, and my greatest desire for all my clients is for them to arrive at a place where they feel they no longer need me, my door is always open.

I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your path to wellness.

As a clinical counsellor with a deep-rooted passion for both science and psychology, my journey into the world of counselling was shaped by personal challenges that led me to understand the profound impact mental health support can have. Early in my career, I faced the loss of a close family member, and during that time, I struggled to find the right resources to help me navigate my grief. This experience sparked my commitment to helping others in their own times of need and became the foundation for my career in counselling.

I have had the privilege of working with diverse populations, including individuals in crisis, navigating life transitions, children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and youth within the school system. Over the past few years, I have been part of the provincial healthcare system, working within the adult mental health and substance use team, where I have supported clients facing acute mental health challenges, often alongside other complex issues that can coexist and complicate one’s well-being.

My approach to counselling is centered on your unique journey. I am deeply committed to facilitating your growth in a way that is supportive, empathic, and tailored specifically to your needs. Creating a safe, non-judgmental space is essential in my practice, where you can explore your experiences with a trauma-informed perspective. I believe that we are all the experts in our own lives, and sometimes, navigating life’s challenges requires a compassionate guide to help us heal and grow.

I work with individuals dealing with a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss, life transitions, and trauma. Whether you’re navigating a major life change or processing difficult emotions, I am here to support you in overcoming these hurdles with care and respect for your unique needs.

Core Values If I had to choose one key value, it would be determination. However, I also deeply believe in the power of hard work, acceptance, and kindness. These values have served me well throughout my life, especially in overcoming personal obstacles. They remind me of the importance of hope, self-love, and resilience in the face of adversity. I aim to bring these same principles into our work together, as we navigate your healing journey.

Counselling Philosophy At the heart of counselling is you—your experiences, your goals, and your process. My role is to walk alongside you, offering support and guidance as you move through life’s challenges at your own pace. It’s a collaborative relationship built on mutual respect, empathy, and trust. Together, we’ll work towards your healing and personal growth.
